The 51st Highlanders abandoned after Dunkirk,

Many fought the Totenkopf SS and Rommels armoured divisions keeping them away from the beaches, forced by the French generals to surrender... eight days after the last soldier was evacuated from Dunkirk... a whole generation of Highlanders was lost
