Description

I remember Andy Stewart from when I was wearing short trousers he was a sound favourite of most British people especially his Harry Lauder songs, these being three of them. In the fifties there was a great national pride in the Union with Scotland; after all they had not long been through the ravages and rations of the war. Now what pride is there in anything? Sad init.

Andy Stewart MBE (30 December 1933 - 11 October 1993) Scottish singer and entertainer. He was awarded an MBE in 1976.
His Scottish humour, goes back to Sir Harry Lauder and music hall songs. Which he took into the 60's
He was born in Glasgow, the son of a teacher.
He had several hit singles
Come in-Come in, Donald Where's Yer Troosers?, A Scottish Soldier (36 weeks in the UK Singles Chart in 1961), Campbeltown Loch, The Muckin' O' Geordie's Byre, The Road to Dundee, Tunes Of Glory, and Dr. Finlay (1965). He was the compere on the The White Heather Club. This was a BBC Scotland television programme that existed as an annual New Year's Eve party (1957 - 1968), and also as a weekly early evening series (1960 - 1968). "Donald Where's Yer Troosers?" was a hit in 1961 and again in 1989. Andy does an Elvis Presley impersonation half way through the song.
In retirement he moved back to Arbroath and died there in 1993.

I Love a Lassie

I love a lassie,
A bonnie, bonnie lassie,
She's as sweet as the heather in the dell,
She's as sweet as the heather,
The bonnie bloomin' heather,
Mary, my Scotch Bluebell.

Well, I love a lassie,
A bonnie, bonnie lassie,
She's as sweet as the heather in the dell,
She's as sweet as the heather,
The bonnie bloomin' heather,
Mary, my Scotch Bluebell.

So, I love a lassie,
A punk rock lassie,
She's as sweet as the heather in the dell,
She's as sweet as the heather,
The bonnie bloomin' heather,
Mary, my Scotch Bluebell.

Mary, my Scotch Bluebell ....

Roamin in the Gloaming

Im roaming in the gloaming,
with a Bonnie near the Clyde.
Roaming in the gloaming,
with a lassie by my side.
Tis when the sun goes down,
that's the time that I like best.
Oh yeah, I'm roaming in the gloaming.

Roaming in the gloaming,
with a Bonnie near the Clyde.
Roaming in the gloaming,
with a lassie by my side.
Tis when the sun goes down,
that's the time that I like best.
Oh yeah, I'm roaming in the gloaming.

The End Of The Road

1. Ev'ry road thro' life is a long, long road .
Fill' d with joys and sorrows too
As you journey on how your heart will yearn
For the things most dear to you
With wealth and love tis so
But onward we must go
Chorus
2. Keep right on to the end of the road
Keep right on to the end
Tho' the way be long, let your heart be strong
Keep right on to the end
Tho you're tired and weary still journey on,
Till you come to your happy abode
Where all you love, you've been dreaming of
Will be there, at the end of the road
3. With a big stout heart to a long steep hill
We may get there with a smile
With a good kind thought and a mile end view
We may cut short many a mile
So let courage evry day
Be your guiding star alway
Chorus .
