Description
Ben Bhraggie Sutherland Scotland. Locally known as the ' Mannie' The statue dominates the skyline above Golspie, Cromarty Firth and the family seat, Dunrobin Castle nearby.
George Granville Leveson-Gower was the Marquess of Stafford and first Duke of Sutherland who became notorious through the part he played in the Highland clearances.
The clearances were described by some commentators as a form of ethnic cleansing undertaken between 1811 and 1820.
Even today there are still many who would have the statue destroyed, such was his reputation.
