Big Storm Hits Wick Bay
Description
The weather turned very stormy on the night of 14th December 2012 and right into after lunch time on 15th December hammered Wick Bay at high tides. The wind and tide drove huge amounts of sea water into the bay that then hit the piers with enormous power making huge waves crash into the sky. Relentless rain throughout the night also added flooding in many parts of Caithness. emergency services worked around the clock joined by council workers clearing debris, fallen trees and draining water in many parts. the Service Bridge in Wick once again took a hammering and was inspected as cracks appeared in on places. The bridge was closed temporarily to be checked but later re-opened. Roads around the harbour were closed for most of the day as water rushed on to the many parts of the roads. In the early hours of the morning cars had to be removed after waves lifted one or two and caused damage. A boat sank in the harbour but was refloated.
