The ferry from Uig, Isle of Skye, arrives in Tarbert, Isle of Harris, Outer Hebrides, at just before 7.30am. The wind is absolutely still and the sea is so calm that it runs like mercury from either side of the ship's wash. The dark silhouettes of the hills are beginning to show their form. A couple of hours later, as the sun lifts the last of the shadows from land and sea, the ferry sets out for the trip back to Skye.
