Description

Dysart and Dundonald Pipe Band under Pipe Major Greig Canning were last on to compete in the Grade One Competition at the RSPBA Scottish Championships held in Dumbarton on 21 May 2011. The band's MSR set is Hugh Kennedy, Ewe wi' the Crooked Horn and The Brown Haired Maid.

Dysart and Dundonald is one of the great brand names in the pipe band world. The band's origins lie in a juvenile band formed in Dundonald in Fife in 1929. The band rose slowly through the grades to become a Grade One band in 1973. In the decade that followed Dysart and Dundonald, under Pipe Major Robert Shepherd, achieved considerable competition success - including winning the World Championship in 1977 and 1978.

The band disbanded in 2007 and its history might have ended there. However some former members reformed the band in September 2010. This is the band's first championship performance in its current incarnation. This time the judges ratings for the band were almost identical to those of 2007, the last time the band competed here - a good enough result to start with. All lovers of pipe band music will wish them well. Welcome back.
