Re-meandering The Eddleston Water, Scottish Borders
Featured video
Description
BGS are involved with multiple partners in the Scottish Borders as part of an ongoing programme of work to reintroduce meanders to a previously straightened section of the Eddleston Water, a tributary of the Tweed. The meanders are designed to provide natural flood remediation downstream, particularly in the town of Peebles, just 3 miles away. BGS scientists are using repeat UAV drone surveys and sediment capture to monitor the evolution of the new meanders over time, and to study river bank erosion and sediment transport in a dynamic system.
