LYRICS:
Going up to Shiloh, I travel north by land
heading on to Shiloh musket in my hand
got a welcome to extend there to Grant & all his men
heading for the landings to join the rebel stand
I got out fore Vicksburg & traveled east cross land
Headed for Virginia ride the fast I can
Hope to find the answers, hope to turn the tide
put my faith in Lee there, & lord our fate decide
Chorus
Sun shines in the west
sanguine in my devotion and I disregard the rest
Cold must be the heart
that cannot find the sadness in dreams whose suns have set
Now many years of weary battle sadness fills my heart
as once again my brothers for the south they do depart
but I must stay behind now, green fields where I lay
glad I never lived to see that Appomattox day
Chorus
Sun sinks in the west
sanguine in my devotion and I disregard the rest
Cold must be the heart
that cannot find the sadness in dreams whose suns have set
Sun sets in the west
sanguine in my devotion and I disregard the rest
Cold must be the heart
that cannot find the sadness in dreams whose suns have set
