Wick Pipe Band - July 2011
Description
The historical Wick R.B.L.S. Pipe Band, founded in 1919, plays in their hometown of Wick, Caithness, on the first day of the celebrated Wick Pipe Wick. I had the privilege of witnessing the event up-close and recording it, and what a beautiful performance it was. The local band is internationally renowned, just coming back from a spectacular performance in Germany. I just wanted to share a little bit of the joy I felt listening to their music with you folks. The band members are also extremely friendly, competent and professional and deserve all our respect and admiration. The video also features the local young girls beautifully dancing to our traditional Highland band, and even a little tiny girl dancing on the streets with joy to the sound of the pipes - the cutest thing! I hope you enjoy it.
I personally asked authorization to upload this video to the Wick Pipe Band's Drum Major, who is obviously featured in the video, Mr. Fraser, who happens to be a very nice feller. And many thanks to our dear band, who also performs good music not only here in their hometown, but all over the world, they are a great source of pride for Caithness, the Highlands and Scottish people everywhere.
The first bagpiper that appears right next to the camera (0:07) is an excellent and renowned pipe major, Mr Campbell, who actually gives me the generous privilege of being my tutor. Mr Campbell is very good at what he does, and I couldn't ask for a better teacher! Hopefully, in the future I can be a fraction of the piper he is, and I would be very happy with such amazing accomplishment! He is that good too, you oughta hear him playing, really rocks at it!
That was also a very special date for me personally, along with the next day. After following the band, I talked to Campbell and he introduced me to Fraser the band's drum major (the guy leading with the mace) who had a nice set of pipes for sale. The very next day I bought my very first and bagpipes, from him! I love my bagpipes and he sold me the set (D. MacPherson bagpipes) for a reasonable price. What a glorious week that was for me! I'm glad I met them folks, their pipe band is awesome and everyone is nice there.
